This pretty little square at the end of Ile de la Cité is one of the 5 royal squares of Paris, with Place des Vosges, Place de la Concorde, Place Vendome and Place des Victoire. It was erected in 1601, in honor of Dauphin Louis XIII. The pavilions bordering it recall the archiecture of the mansions of the Place des Vosges.
